Samar Khan Conquers Mount Aconcagua Amidst Snowstorm at Summit

By [AR Sultan]

Mount Aconcagua, Argentina — At 4 AM, Samar Khan and her team of mountaineers embarked on a challenging 10-hour ascent toward the summit of Mount Aconcagua, the tallest peak in South America. The expedition, which had spanned nearly 20 days, saw the climbers reach camp three on the 360 route, where they took advantage of a brief lull in the weather before continuing their final push.

Over the course of the past week, Khan and her team had been acclimatizing to the altitude, gradually moving between camps. But the real test awaited them: a perilous stretch known as the traverse. A three-hour section of the climb, devoid of sunlight and plagued by bone-chilling winds, proved to be the breaking point for many. Yet, Khan’s team persevered, pushing forward despite the harsh conditions.

The final section of the climb, although less extreme, still posed its own challenges. “The last part depends on your physical strength, your training, and your mental strength,” Khan shared. With determination, her team continued their ascent, each step a test of endurance.

By the time they neared the summit, only one other group remained on the mountain. But they were no match for Khan and her team, who reached the summit first, their triumph marked by a brief celebration despite a fierce snowstorm that greeted them at the top.

After a quick round of photos and videos, the team began their descent back to base camp, thousands of meters below. For Khan, the journey was not just about reaching the summit, but about the personal growth and freedom it brought her.

“It felt peaceful, strong, and confident. It was something I wanted more of,” she reflected.

Looking ahead, Khan plans to take on Denali, North America’s tallest peak, standing nearly 6,200 meters above sea level. But for her, the real adventure will come after the summit—snowboarding down the mountain.

Khan’s journey continues to inspire, demonstrating the power of perseverance, strength, and a spirit unyielding to the most unforgiving of challenges.

an Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is shutting down White House claims that the federal government is doing all it can to support Puerto Ricans after Hurricane Maria completely devastated the U.S. territory over a week ago.

Cruz slammed Elaine Duke, acting secretary of Homeland Security, over her Thursday comments, which lauded the “amazing” federal response to the disaster.

“I know it’s a hard storm to recover from,” Duke told reporters outside the White House. “But I know it is really a good news story in terms of our ability to reach people and the limited number of deaths that have taken place in such a devastating hurricane.”

But the situation continues to be dire as people in need await aid deliveries, said Cruz, who was shocked and appalled by Duke’s statement.

Maybe from where she’s standing it’s a good news story,” Cruz said on CNN’s “New Day” Friday. “When you are drinking from a creek, it’s not a good news story.”

“I’m sorry, but that really upsets me and frustrates me,” she continued, holding back tears. “Frankly, it’s an irresponsible statement. … Damn it, this is not a good news story. This is a people are dying story. This is a life or death story. … This is a story of a devastation that continues to worsen because people are not getting food and water.”

“If I could scream it a lot more louder ― it’s not a good news story when people are dying when they don’t have dialysis, and when the generators aren’t working and the oxygen is not providing for them. Where is there good news here?”
